For the love of Bat

For the love of Bat

Welcome, Bat-fans!

Check out If You Want to Start Reading Batman for my reading recommendations.

Also, read my YEAREND 2014 recap for comics that I've enjoyed and ranked.

BATMAN is my childhood hero and this blog is my love letter to this beautiful and timeless man. I want to read, watch and review everything his 75 years has to offer, and impart my insights about the scope of his legacy.

Since 2014, I've read New 52 titles and some critically-acclaimed graphic novels according to online resources, mostly from the old continuity. I'm currently reviewing Bat-titles for the DC Universe Rebirth.

There are two ways I review: first, by doing individual issues of a certain title; and then by reviewing the collected editions that were released for that title.

To see my ongoing list of Batman comic book titles, please view Comics Shelf on the menu bar. It's been updated in 2021 to explain the reason for my five-year hiatus. Hopefully I can be back here this year for good. All my reviews are featured on my Goodreads.

Let's get jiggy with it~

About Me

Frankh King
During my twenties, I used to read tons of comics and write how I feel about them in stunningly self-indulgent diary nonsense. But now the words escape me because I had a lot of growing up to do in the last five years. Still, I might pop in every once in a while to recapture what I accomplished across my blogs.

Robin Rises: Omega #1
Robin Rises: Omega #1
by Peter J. Tomasi
I had two new-release issues I looked forward to the most for the end of this month. First is the last issue of Scott Snyder's Batman: Zero Year run (issue #33). The next is Peter J. Tomasi's follow-up to the events of The Hunt for Robin...
Batman Incorporated (2012-2013) #1
Batman Incorporated (2012-2013) #1
by Grant Morrison
Batman: Birth of the Demon
Batman: Birth of the Demon
by Dennis O'Neil
This comic book is the origin story of one of Batman’s formidable foes: Ra’s al Ghul. Written by the ever amazing Dennis O’Neil, the mythos of Ra’s awakening from man to beast is exemplary, a tantalizing tale of revenge and rebirth that ...
Batman: The Last Arkham
Batman: The Last Arkham
by Alan Grant
This was quite a fun mystery narrative which examines the inner workings of the Arkham Asylum under the supervision of Jeremiah Arkham who inherited the place after his uncle was driven to insanity. He prides himself of being gifted with...
Batman: Ego
Batman: Ego
by Darwyn Cooke
Since his writing and illustration of the Minutemen stories under the Before Watchmen series, Darwyn Cooke has earned a special place in my geek heart. This story remains the most inquisitive and touching with that certified Cooke signat...
Batman: Gothic
Batman: Gothic
by Grant Morrison
It’s quite an exciting journey where fantasy and horror are blended together with the basic Batman formula of murder mystery to create a unique story that encompasses the surreal in a comprehensible scale. I really like the panel layout ...
Batman: Under the Red Hood
Batman: Under the Red Hood
by Judd Winick
The first time I encountered this story was through its animation film “Under the Red Hood” and I absolutely loved it, mostly because Jensen Ackles voiced Jason Todd while Neil Patrick Harris was Nightwing. It was pleasant to finally rea...
Absolute Batman: Hush
Absolute Batman: Hush
by Jeph Loeb
This comic story has everything that it tends to become disjointed at times but at its best, it was able to provide insightful examinations on Batman’s social circle which includes fellow caped crusaders and the colorful villains that co...
Batman: Prey
Batman: Prey
by Doug Moench
Doug Moench’s PREY was an issue that touched upon the early relationship between Batman and the Gotham Police Department which was a struggle on both sides. Batman is a mask who operates above the law and the GPD are men of badges who se...
Batman: Blind Justice
Batman: Blind Justice
by Sam Hamm
What I genuinely liked about this story was the introduction of Henri Ducard, one of Bruce Wayne’s mentors who contributed to his training as the Batman. However, Ducard is quite an opportunist who doesn’t share any of Batman’s ideals an...
Batman, Vol. 1: The Court of Owls
Batman, Vol. 1: The Court of Owls
by Scott Snyder
I was happy about DC's decision to release The New 52 line-up particularly on how they were going to re-define Batman (and his other titles like Detective Comics, The Dark Knight and Batman and Robin). I have just gotten back into comics...
Batman: The Killing Joke
Batman: The Killing Joke
by Alan Moore
Alan Moore’s blissfully insane The Killing Joke was Tim Burton’s inspiration for his Joker in his Batman movies. It was said that he insisted to adapt the Joker’s origin story from this comic book and upon reading TKJ myself, I understoo...
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
by Frank Miller
In every list of the greatest Batman stories ever written, this is always on top of the pile (rivaled once in a while by his other work, Year One, if not followed closely by Alan Moore's The Killing Joke). Naturally, I was excited to sta...
The Joker: Death of the Family
The Joker: Death of the Family
by Scott Snyder
Like any avid Batman fan, finding out that the Joker will be returning in the New 52 line-up was instantly gratifying, especially since I consider him my most favorite Batman villain ever since Mark Hamill's version in Batman: The Animat...
Batman '66 #2
Batman '66 #2
by Jeff Parker
I started watching the Adam West show four years ago when I was lucky enough to find access of the episodes online. It took me a while to appreciate the campiness and the hilarity of the series' tone especially since I was born into a ge...
Batman/Superman (2013- ) Annual #1
Batman/Superman (2013- ) Annual #1
by Greg Pak
I've read my share of World's Finest before and the real draw for doing so was the chance to see Superman and Batman join forces together and fight crime. After all, they're more at odds with each other than any other tandem I have encou...
Batman Black and White #4
Batman Black and White #4
by Nathan Edmondson
This wasn't a stellar issue as far as Batman Black and White standards go. I tried to think about how to come up with a decent review but there's not much to say about this particular issue except that I probably enjoyed looking at the a...
Batman '66 #3
Batman '66 #3
by Jeff Parker
Reading Batman in comics, especially keeping track of his New 52 line-up titles, is not always an enjoyable experience because the tone and atmosphere of most of his stories these days can be depressing as hell. Watching the Nolan trilog...
Batman and Robin #17
Batman and Robin #17
by Peter J. Tomasi
At the end of the day, all I want from Peter J. Tomasi's Batman and Robin series is for it to be a standout feel-good title. Because why the fuck not? It soared into new creative heights upon release of its first volume, Born to Kill aft...
Batman and Robin (2011- ) #15
Batman and Robin (2011- ) #15
by Peter J. Tomasi
Tomasi's most absolutely marvelous issue yet, and by this point since his completely undesirable shift in tone and atmosphere from the tenth issue down to the fourteenth for Batman and Robin, this crossover event tie-in regarding the Jok...
Batman and Robin #16
Batman and Robin #16
by Peter J. Tomasi
I was very satisfied and enthralled with the last issue, Little BIG Man because of the amazing visual quality it produced, courtesy of Pat Gleason, and the thought-provoking dialogue written by Tomasi between the Joker and Damian Wayne. ...
Batman Black and White #5
Batman Black and White #5
by Ivan Brandon
This was a definite improvement from the last issue, I can tell you that much. The five stories enclosed were written with a more convincing premise and a fairly justifiable resolution. Batman Black and White as a title is supposed to co...
Batman Detective Comics #19
Batman Detective Comics #19
by John Layman
It'a always a great prospect to purchase a single-issue comic that is a special edition as ascertained with this one's price and 80-paged packaging. In this case, Detective Comics also officially marks its 900th-issue run with #19 featur...
Batman Detective Comics #27
Batman Detective Comics #27
by John Layman
Detective Comics celebrates the glorious and enduring symbol of the Batman in this special 75th anniversary issue with a tantalizing cover art by Greg Capullo. It's an image that we all have seen before countless of times; the ominous fi...
